FAQs

THE KNOW, BEFORE YOU GO

I’ve never trekked before - Will I be able to complete a Trek?

No prior experience backpacking or hiking is required or expected to join any of our trips. What is important is that your physical fitness matches the difficulty of the trip you choose. Trekking with Purpose offers treks to suit all levels and abilities. We’ll find one to suit you and we’ll also work out a fitness program to get you prepared.

What about the heights, altitude and cold?

We will make sure you are prepared for all situations and will discuss in details any questions you have. Your guide will contact you before your trip to answer your questions, and that’s a great opportunity to get clarity on what you’ll need based on current weather forecasts and seasonal considerations.

What insurance do I need?

A good level of travel insurance that specifically covers trekking and the altitudes you will be getting to is recommended. We’ve partnered up with World Nomads to get you a great deal, but all good insurance companies will offer cover.

How many people in my group?

Anywhere from 3-10 people per trekking group. However, we can customise the group based on your requirements.

What vaccinations do I need?

The main recommended vaccinations for Nepal are Hepatitis ATyphoid, and Meningitis. Boosters are also recommended for TetanusPolioMumps, and Measles. Depending on your travel plans, you may also consider inoculations against Japanese EncephalitisHepatitis B, and Rabies

Always take advice from your doctor, and World Nomads also offers advice on their website.

This depends and the time of year and the altitude you will be getting to. But prepare for all seasons and definitely get a good pair of boots. Trekking with Purpose has provided a suggested inventory of clothing and equipment HERE.

No. Part of the trek fee covers porters who carry our equipment. You will need to carry a day pack with water, wet weather gear and other essentials.

What’s included in my trip?

All accommodation pre-, during and post-trek is included. Meals include breakfast, lunch and dinner during the trek. Evening meals pre- and post-trek are not included, but breakfast is included at our hotels.

All trek fees, permits, guides and porters are included, but please note that it is usual practice to tip the guides and porters after the trek. Alcoholic drinks are not included. Flights are not included but can be arranged if requested.

Do I Need To Bring Everything On The Packing List?

Our packing lists are geared toward helping guests be prepared for all potential weather and environmental situations. It’s a very real possibility that you may not end up needing everything on the list, but it’s better to have it and not need it than vice versa.

Your guide will contact you before your trip to answer your questions, and that’s a great opportunity to get clarity on what you’ll need based on current weather forecasts and seasonal considerations.

When is the best time to trek Nepal?

Trekking in Nepal can be undertaken throughout the year. There are four seasons in Nepal and each season has its own distinct attraction. The Nepal trekking seasons are classified as follows:

AUTUMN (Sept – Nov):

Autumn is considered the best time for trekking in Nepal, because this season offers excellent weather and spectacular mountain views. Moderate temperatures and clear skies make it the perfect time to undertake any of our treks. Occasional short weather changes sometimes provides snow at high altitudes, but we believe this only improves the views.

WINTER (Dec – Feb):

Winter is noted for snowfall at higher elevations. Though it gets colder at night, the days are clear, with beautiful blue skies and generally fewer trekkers on the trail. However, we have to be selective in choosing winter treks as climbing and crossing high passes on certain treks won’t be an option. Treks like Everest base camp, Annapurna Panorama, Annapurna Dhaulagiri, Annapurna Sanctuary, etc., can be completed even in winter.

SPRING (March – May):

Different varieties of wild flowers, especially the rhododendrons, make the hillside a paradise during the Spring season. The temperature is mild at lower elevations and, at higher elevation, the mountain views are excellent and the temperature is moderate.

SUMMER (Jun-Aug):

Summertime, from June until mid-September, makes travel wet and warm. These times are great for keen botanists as the higher valleys and meadows blossom with flowers and lush vegetation. Trekking in rain-shadow regions, i.e. places that are out of reach of the rain because of high mountains, is possible. Areas north of the Himalaya like Upper Mustang and Dolpo would be an ideal trek selection.
